Hypnotherapy -
What is hypnosis?

| Hypnosis is a natural way of bypassing
our conscious mind and reaching directly to the
subconscious mind. In a state of deep relaxation, your mind accepts suggestions as they are,
and releases beliefs that hold you back. |
Hypnosis is effective because it works directly with the part of the mind that keeps the problem in place – the
unconscious. We use hypnosis to help people make the changes they want in their lives quickly, easily and
effectively.
Hypnotherapy is the combination of hypnosis and therapy. Through hypnotherapy, the
therapist guides you to delve into your subconscious mind to change behavior that may be negatively impacting your
ability to live life to the fullest.
"Imagination is more
important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."
~Albert Einstein
People visit hypnotherapists for all sorts of reasons. Most commonly, they come for stop smoking, manage
their weight or cure phobias. Hypnotherapy is also proven to be very effective for folks who want to overcome or
let go of unhelpful patterns.
Hypnotherapy works by uncovering the reasons for your struggle trapped in your subconscious. Using hypnotherapy
techniques, we facilitate a process of healing to positively change your life. Unlike modern medicine, hypnotherapy
seeks to uncover the source of your problem to reveal the cause, and to help you heal - without drugs, without
sedatives and without dulling the senses.
Hypnosis is a very helpful tool in the improvement of human life. I use hypnosis for the health and
benefit of people.
Hypnosis is not mind control. I want you to know that the
therapist cannot make a patient do what he/she does not want to do - medically or
otherwise. Hypnosis is an internal process - not an external force. The hypnotherapist does not
exude any power over the client.
Anybody can learn to hypnotize, but to be a hypnotherapist takes years. That is the difference between an
entertainer and a professional hypnotherapist. That is the difference between a weekend certification and years of
experience and seeing over thousands of clients over the years. There are no guarantees for success in therapy, not
in cognitive therapy nor in hypnotherapy. Results depend on many variables, but most importantly to the
client's motivation to change.
To properly prepare a person for hypnosis, I educate my clients regarding some misconceptions and believe
it needs to be discussed and any question answered. This is necessary because I believe there are only three things
that can prevent a person from being hypnotized: (1) lack of knowledge, (2) fear, (3) resistance.
If a person can think, reason, and communicate, that person can be hypnotized. By discussing the
misconceptions and answering the client's questions, hopefully any fear of hypnosis can be eliminated. The only
other thing that keeps a person from being hypnotized is resistance which the you, the client controls.
Some clients have said: how do I know "it" worked? Others think as if they were
not hypnotized, yet feel so relaxed as if they took a nap. Some even feel no change has occurred,
yet by their second session, they are amazed how "it" worked. Well, let me tell you a secret. There is no "it".
"It" is YOU. You the client is in full control of Yourself and do most of the work and I, your
hypnotherapist, guide and coach you to a state so that you can help yourself:
• Accept the inevitableness of
changes
• Welcome and enjoy change
• Make the most of the benefits brought by change

"How can I describe my feelings in a sentence except to say: I am grateful to you Liza. You helped me
overcome my internal fears of taking this exam which as you know, I had failed five times before. Now I
can pursue my career in directions I could not foresee unless I passed this securities exam. Again,
thank you from the bottom of my heart.” |

Some misconceptions are:
(1) A hypnotized person is unconscious or asleep. False.
A hypnotized person does not pass out, or become unconscious and is not asleep. In the hypnotic state, the client
can hear and remember much of what is said during the sessions. Even though I tell everyone that they will hear and
remember much of what I say, there is always someone who says that they were not hypnotized because they hear every
word I said.
(2) A person may not come out the hypnotic trance. False.
There is not a case in recorded history in which a person failed to come out of hypnosis. A person may become so
relaxed that he will fall into a natural, restful sleep. If so, he will awaken naturally later.
(3) Under hypnosis, a person will obey any suggestions. False.
Although this is a favorite theme of fiction writers, it is not true. In reality all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The
person will not do anything under hypnosis that is against his moral or personal standards.
(4) A post-hypnotic suggestion lasts a lifetime. Maybe
A post-hypnotic suggestion can last from a few minutes to a life time. That all depends to what the suggestion is.
If I gave the suggestion that each and every time you touch your two fingers together and you will relax and feel
calmer, and if you were to use that all the time, then that suggestion and action will remain with you for as long
as it is necessary.
(5) Only weak-minded people can be hypnotized. False.
Contrary to popular belief, the more intelligent and imaginative the person, the easier it is for that person to be
hypnotized. That is why kids and A type personalities have acute response to the process - thus faster
outcome.
(6) A person has to be in deep trance for hypnosis to be helpful. False. People
respond favorably to self-improvement suggestions in the light and medium states of hypnosis.
(7) If you remove one symptom another will take its place. False.
Very seldom if at all does an individual replace another symptom with one released by hypnosis. Nothing can be
deleted from your mind and what is edited and transformation has occurred, there is no need for
replacements.
