Millions of Americans are overweight,
and the latest studies tell us that more and more people are becoming overweight every year.
Being overweight is a risk factor for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and several kinds of
cancer.

The average overweight woman (180 pounds) burns about 2000 calories a day
(Thompson & Manore, 1996; Heska, Feld, & Yang, 1993). A pound of body fat contains 3,500 calories. To lose
a pound of body fat, you have to burn 3,500 calories more than you eat. To lose a pound a day (or 30 pounds in 30
days), simple arithmetic shows that the only way this is possible is for the average overweight woman to stop
eating and to start doing 1,500 calories a day of extra exercise. To burn this many extra calories, the 180 pound
woman would have to ride a bicycle 5 hours a day every day for a month while completely fasting (Ainsworth,
Haskell, Leon, Jacobs, Montoye, Sallis, & Paffenbarger, 1993) . Find me a women that she can juggle
this in her daily life....unless she is a professional athlete.
There is no magic involved in losing weight. Your fat cells are
like a gas tank on a car in that they store fuel until you need it. When a gas tank is full, you cannot add any
more gas. However, our body fat stores continue to expand as long as we continue to take in more energy than we
burn. To lose body fat, you must burn more energy that you eat so that your body has to draw upon the fuel stored
in fat cells. The only way to lose weight is to increase the amount of fuel you burn, decrease the amount you
consume, or do both at the same time. The rate at which you can lose weight is limited by how fast the body burns
energy.
Healthy weight loss and maintenance actually means to eat a healthy diet rich in
the nutrients we need without excess calories. You must never underestimate the importance of sleep to stay
healthy in the same way that we all need daily exercise. Unfortunately, wanting something to be true does not
make it true. It is simply not possible for the average person to lose a pound of day even by completely
fasting.
Millions of Americans have been victimized by the diet industry for too long. And
that’s why despite the fact people are spending more money than ever on diet pills, meal replacement shakes, diet
books and late-night TV diets than ever before, according to the National Centre for Health Statistics (who have
been tracking obesity problems for over four decades)...
- Between 1962 and the year 2000, the number of obese Americans
grew from 13% to an alarming 31% of the population
- 63% of Americans are overweight with a Body Mass Index (BMI)
in excess of 25.0.
- 31% are obese with a BMI in excess of 30.0.
- Childhood obesity in the United States has more than tripled
in the past two decades.
- According to the U.S. Surgeon General report obesity is
responsible for 300,000 deaths every year
- According To Medical News Today and The American Heart
Association Being overweigth has become number one hazard to health.

Overweight Has Also Been Associated With the Following Major Health
Concerns:
- Coronary heart disease, which is a leading cause of major heart
attacks
- Higher blood cholesterol levels
- Increased blood pressure levels which are a major cause of concern due to the
fact that your heart is constantly subjected to strenuous activity
- Development of type 2 diabetes
- Increased levels of LDL Cholesterol
- A higher risk of osteoarthritis
- A greater risk of severe sleep apnea
- Cancer has also been directly linked to a diet high in fats and an inactive
lifestyle
Increased levels of physical discomfort including difficulty breathing, walking
and sitting. The risk of developing some of these serious illnesses (type 2
diabetes, arthritis) tends to increase as a person gets heavier.
Drink plenty of water. Our body needs a lot of water so give in
to water. Water is not just way to flush out toxin but if you have more water in your body you will generally feel
healthier and fitter. This it self will discourage any tendency to gorge. The best thing about water is that is has
no calories at all. Start your day with a glass of water. As soon as you wake up, gulp down a glass of cool
water. It’s a wonderful way to start your day and you only need a lesser quantity of your breakfast drink after
that.
A glass of water lets out all your digestive juices and sort of lubricates the
insides of your body. You may have your morning cup of tea but have it after a glass of water. It is good for
you. Drink a glass of water before you start the meal. Water naturally needs some space so that you feel
fuller without actually having to stuff yourself.
Increase your fiber intake. Like I mentioned, the body needs a
lot of fiber. So do your best to include in your daily diet as many fruits and vegetables as you
can.
Vegetables are your best bet when it comes to losing pounds.
Nature has a terrific spread when it comes to choosing vegetables. And the leafy green vegetables are your best
bet. Do your best to include a salad in you diet always. Choose fresh fruit over processed fruits.
Processed and canned fruits do not have as much fiber as fresh fruit and processed and canned fruits are nearly
always sweetened.Eat fresh fruit instead of drinking fruit juice.
You can greatly reduce your risks of developing these and numerous other health
problems by losing as little as 10 pounds, and incorporating simple and positive thought processes about your body
and yourself, creating a joyous and better living enviroment, become aware of what you eat and add daily
walks and exercise into your lifestyle today!
