Some of the most common causes of breast cancer are:

*Genetic Predisposition   *Fat and Obesity    *Smoking

*High levels of Estrogen  *Personality type   * Life Stress

Cancer survivors need to pay special attention to four key areas:

Diet, Supplements, Exercise, and Mind-Body medicine. Do your best to implement at least a few of these modalities and work toward other beneficial goals on your own.

1. Minimize the intake of sweets or cut them out of your diet completely. Too many sweets can increase the risk of developing tumors and can lessen the body’s natural defense against cancerous growth.

2. Stop smoking and avoid passive smoke. Smoking is the leading cause of lung, throat and tongue cancer. But even if you aren’t smoking yourself, you are still at risk if you are exposed to second hand smoke from other people.

3. Limit cola intake. Most sodas can wreak havoc on the body’s anti-oxidants and speed up the degeneration of cells, leading to less resistance to cancer growth.

4. Take vitamins and supplements. Taking vitamins and supplements can aid your body in cell preservation as well as improve its natural immune system, helping not only in preventing cancer but other diseases as well.

5. Eat balanced meals. Eating balanced meal will help as well to boost your immune system and to prevent ingestion of cancer-causing food.

6. Exercise daily. Exercising will not only improve the body’s natural defense mechanisms, but will also help in cleaning toxins out of your system.

Cancer WellnessMore on healthy eating.

  • Enjoy fruits and vegetables. Add a rainbow mix of produce to your diet. Each color represents a different beneficial phytochemical—red for lycopene, orange for beta-carotene, yellow for lutein, purple for proanthocyanidins, and so on. Pay special attention to those fruits and vegetables that have been associated in studies with reducing cancer risk—such as berries and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage.
  • Limit animal fats, both meat and dairy. Try to incorporate more vegetarian dishes in your diet and use meat more as a garnish than the highlight of the meal. Avoid blackened meats, which contain carcinogenic compounds known as heterocyclic amines.
  • Increase your intake of omega-3s. These cancer-protective essential fatty acids are found in salmon, sardines, and other cold-water fish, as well as flax and walnuts. Opt for olive oil. Cook with olive oil rather than polyunsaturated vegetable oils, which may actually promote cancer. Avoid processed foods that contain hydrogenated vegetable oils too.
  • Choose foods protective against specific cancers. Eat more tofu and other soy foods if you’re recovering from breast cancer, more crucifers and garlic if you have had colorectal cancer, and more soy foods and tomatoes (cooked with a little oil) if you have had prostate cancer.
  • Cut back on alcohol. This advice is especially important if you have had breast cancer.
  • Sip green tea. Try to drink 3 to 4 cups daily for an optimum intake of polyphonies that appear to reduce the risk for a number of cancers.
  • Give thanks and appreciate your body and your self. Nourishing yourself is the only natural healing that exists… make the best out of it! Be the best that you can be…. Be the Change!

Facts:

Only 14% of calories in the average Chinese diet were from fat, compared with almost 47 % in US

*Soybean is one of the most nutritious legumes known that is consumed by Chinese women. Soybean contains substances that are caner-protective- chemicals called phytoestrogesn – believed to block the effect of estrogen on receptors in breast or breast cancer cells – similar to that of the antiestrogen drug Tamoxifen!

*Legumes such as peas and beans are plants that fix nitrogen from atmosphere in the soil.

*Chickpeas – the basis of Hummus, eaten throughout Middle East – as well as lentils and red clover and beans contain a complete range of the isoflavones.

*No Dairy. Most Chinese do not consume dairy products.   Even yogurt has been implicated in ovarian cancer.

Dr. Daniel Cramer of Harvard University studied hundreds of women with Ovarian Cancer and had them record everything they ate. They all had similar diets which they all included healthy dairy products such as Yogurt and lots of cookies (dough). The culprit might be the breakdown of milk sugar lactose. Lactose is broken down in the body to another sugar called galactose. In turn, galactose is broken down further by enzymes in the body – thus when dairy product consumption exceeds the enzymes capacity to break down galactose, there is a built-up of galactose in the blood, which may damage a woman’s ovaries and breast lymph’s. In fact yogurt and cottage cheese seem to be of most concern because the bacteria used in their production.
